Rapper 50 Cent asked his fans to pray for people in Los Angeles as wildfires run rampant in the city.

Why It Matters

Since January 7 devastating fires have ripped through Los Angeles, including in areas such as Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Pasadena and Altadena. Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes and at least 25 people have been killed.

Many celebrities have joined relief efforts by donating to organizations on the ground and encouraging their fans to do so.

Beyoncé donated $2.5 million dollars through her foundation, BeyGOOD, to the LA Fire Relief Fund. Other celebrities to chip in have included Jamie Lee Curtis, Kendall Jenner, Eva Longoria and Paris Hilton—whose Malibu home burned down in the fires.

What We Know

50 Cent— whose given name is Curtis Jackson— took to X to post footage of an obliterated neighborhood. It is unclear whether the footage was from Los Angeles, but it had originally been posted by an Italian news account on Instagram, Whoopsee.it.

The rapper used the footage to ask for people to send their prayers to Southern California.

“🙏🏿pray for LA, this is unbelievable wow,” 50 Cent captioned the post from January 12, which had 1.3 million views at the time of writing.

Newsweek contacted 50 Cent’s representatives by email on Wednesday for comment.

“Still can’t believe the state of LA 😔. It’s heartbreaking every time I see it. We’ve talked about this before, but it’s crucial we keep the conversation going. Celebrities should start a go fund me page to collect money together for all of California,” wrote @chatterspout.

“Continued prayers for the people of California, may our Great God give them peace and strength to get through this catastrophe. 🙏” replied @cynth9090.

While @brickernick wrote a prayer in the replies, saying that “in this time of great need,” they prayed for “lifting up the people of Los Angeles and the surrounding areas facing devastating fires.”

The prayer also called for “protection to those in harm’s way and strength to the firefighters and first responders working tirelessly with limited resources,” and to “provide comfort and shelter to those who have lost homes or loved ones.”

“Send rain to quench the flames and relief to weary hearts,” @brickernick added.
