A dog owner was left dumbfounded when a man at a restaurant compared her pooch to a fearsome mythological creature. Thankfully, internet users have nothing but love words for the sweet pup.
In a viral TikTok video shared earlier in December under the username @number1americangirl, the poster said: “This guy sees my dog in the coffee shop this morning and as loud as he can goes ‘what the hell is that?”
“The whole coffee shop is staring at this point, and he’s just in shock and he goes: ‘is that a chupacabra from the mountains? up form the top of the mountains?’ Everyone’s watching at this point, and I’m like: ‘is my dog a chupacabra from the top of the mountains? No sir, it’s a dog!”
At the end of the clip, the poster shows the dog in question, a mid-sized short-haired white pup with darker spots, which the owner believes to be a wire haired terrier mix. “But he’s from the streets of Tianuana [Tijuana] so it’s a bit of a mystery,” she said to a user in the comments.
The chupacabra, or “goat sucker,” is a cryptozoological creature said to attack animals and suck their blood across Latin America.
These mystical creatures were first reported in Puerto Rico in 1995, where locals blamed them for the deaths of several domestic animals. They were described as looking like large reptilian kangaroos with huge red eyes, able to walk standing upright.
The chupacabra was also reported in other places, including parts of the U.S., where it was described as a small creature standing on four feet, looking like a hairless dog.
The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 7.9 million views and 1.3 million likes on the platform.
One user, Tav, commented: “Bro doesn’t know what a chupacabra is, red flag number 1.”
Toyos Tattoo said: “I did not expect such an exquisite, handsomely charming dog.”
Spoons added: “Maybe he meant chiribaya, extinct Peruvian mountain dog that was thought to maybe still have some descendants living.”
Newsweek reached out to @number1americangirl for comment via TikTok comments. We could not verify the details of the case.
