An Arizona man has cracked the code for getting the best deals on Facebook Marketplace. His secret? His wife’s Facebook account.
In a viral TikTok video, Allison Thomison shared the hilarious truth behind her husband’s ability to negotiate great discounts from unsuspecting sellers online. The clip shows him unloading his latest find—a Peloton bike—from the back of his truck, grinning like a man who had just pulled off the deal of the century.
“Tell the people what you did,” Thomison calls out from behind the camera. “Tell them how you accomplished this on Facebook Marketplace using your scam method.”
As he takes the bike from the truck, Thomison’s husband laughed and said: “They were a little sad when I showed up as a dude.”
According to Thomison, her husband treats Facebook Marketplace like a competitive sport and is always on the hunt for tools, farm equipment, off-road vehicles and, on occasion, livestock. But he realized early on that sellers tend to be a little more generous when they think they’re dealing with a woman.
“The first time he pulled this off was actually for a good cause,” Thomison told Newsweek. “There was a dog in an abusive situation, and the owner wasn’t responding to my husband’s messages. So he switched over to my account, and—boom—we were able to get the dog to safety.”
With a newfound “offer success rate” that far outperformed the rate when he used his own account, he’s used the method for five years. His haul? “A used tractor, several pairs of vintage boots, tools of all kinds, farm animals—cows, goats, chickens, puppies, you name it—vintage farm equipment like milking machines and meat grinders and so many other treasures,” Thomison said.
She even joked that the scheme is a bit like “catfishing,” while TikTokers praised the idea in the comments section.
“These types of men are my fave,” said one commenter. Another TikToker joked: “This must be the men’s version of girl maths.”
“Saving money is saving money,” said another impressed viewer.
Thomison is waiting to see what her husband’s next discovery will be, but she clarified that it is all in good fun.
“He makes sure he’s never haggling with someone who really needs the money, and he always runs it by me first,” she said. “It’s harmless, it’s funny, and it keeps things interesting around the farm.”
