A woman from New York is going viral after thinking her round stomach was just bloating, when, in fact, she was 13 weeks pregnant.
Grazia Machado (@beyondgraziam) posted a clip on TikTok showing her playing with her 7-month-old daughter at Brooklyn Bridge Park, her stomach noticeably protruding through her striped midi dress. The caption reads: “I thought I was just bloated.”
“I didn’t think I was pregnant because I never got my period and had a baby six months ago,” the 30-year-old told Newsweek.
Machado had even taken a pregnancy test a month earlier, which came back negative. But, when another month passed with no signs of a cycle, she decided to test again.
“I was in shock and didn’t know how far along I would be,” Machado said. She later told Newsweek that she was already 13 weeks at the time of the video.
There may be a few reasons for Machado’s undetected pregnancy. While home pregnancy tests are generally accurate, false negatives can happen—especially in early pregnancy.
Testing too early, improper use, and diluted urine are among the most-common reasons for a false-negative result.
Recently postpartum women may also have erratic hormone levels, making timing and interpretation more complicated.
While it may sound unbelievable, it is medically documented that some women don’t realize they are pregnant for weeks—or even months.
Known as cryptic pregnancies, they often occur in women with irregular cycles, recent births or minimal early symptoms. Hormonal fluctuations, especially postpartum, can further mask signs of a new pregnancy.
Machado’s clip has been viewed over 3.7 million times and received more than 104,000 likes. The caption reads: “When everyone knew I was pregnant … except me.”
Thousands commented on the clip, many of whom were in disbelief that Machado didn’t know.
“Girl, be for real,” one user commented.
“Really? I’m not convinced,” another posted.
A third user asked if she thought her bump was a watermelon. “I thought it was food,” Machado replied.
The now-mom of two said that the reaction from the video has more than doubled her follower count.
“I realized not knowing how far along you are is more common than knowing at four weeks pregnant from the comments,” Machado said.
Machado added that she got pregnant when her first daughter was around 5 months old.
Family and friends were equally stunned when she confirmed the truth—well, most of them. “My parents and brothers said they knew it,” Machado said. “The rest were shocked because my baby was 7 months at the time.”
