The 2023 World Series Champions may be missing the playoffs for a second consecutive season.
An announcement from the team Tuesday may have shut down any thoughts of a possible September run to sneak into the postseason.
Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young announced Tuesday that right-hander Nathan Eovaldi has a rotator cuff strain and will be out for the remainder of the season.
It will be the second time this year that Eovaldi has hit the injured list. The first time on the injured list was due to triceps inflammation, and that sidelined him for over a month. Now, the rotator cuff strain will ultimately end the season for the 35-year-old who is in the first year of a three-year, $75 million contract.
Eovaldi was having one of the more under-the-radar seasons of any player in MLB, as he was 11-3 with a 1.73 ERA and 129 strikeouts across 22 starts and 130 innings pitched. Eovaldi’s performance had already given him a 4.3 WAR, the second highest of his career.
Texas Rangers RHP, Nathan Eovaldi, has a rotator cuff strain and is likely out for the season per Chris Young.

The injury to the ace of the Rangers staff comes at a time when they are scratching and clawing to get back in position for a postseason berth. Texas entered Tuesday 5 1/2 games out of the final AL wild card spot and has now lost its best player.
The remaining schedule for the Rangers features 15 games against teams above .500. Combine that with the magnitude of the loss of Eovaldi, and the World Series champions from just two seasons ago may have to wait until next year to compete for that once again.
