Although I’ve worked in fashion for over a decade (reporting on trends as well as styling), I’ve been in a funk as of late. After giving birth to my son last May, both my body and style have undergone some changes, leaving me searching for an updated wardrobe that’ll flatter my newfound curves while still working for my petite 5’0″ frame. My quest ultimately led me to Loft, an old favorite that not only has a solid petite section, but is currently having a serious semi-annual sale.
Browsing through the discounted pieces, I managed to find everything I was looking for: luxe-looking, trendy yet comfortable items that are easy to pull on in a pinch. I quickly stocked up on everything from loose pants I could wear while working from home to chic barrel-leg jeans and flattering dresses, all of which hit right where they’re supposed to on those 5’4″ and under.
Plenty of picks are priced at just $21 (get it?!), while some are over 50% off. I’ve rounded up what’s already in my cart, ahead (yes, this is my second order in a matter of days), but if you see something you like, you’ll have to act fast. The best stuff is already selling out, so once you spot your size, grab it and check out!
Loft’s Semi-Annual Sale: Best Petite Clothes
1. A Rich Mom Coat: I have to start my shopping list with a sleek, double-breasted coat that I already have in my possession. Not only is it expensive-looking in person, but it also goes with everything and is surprisingly warm (I say that as someone who lives in chilly upstate New York!) — was $220, now $110!
2. Celeb-Worthy Pants: Katie Holmes, is that you? After the star stepped out in a pair of satin pants, I was determined to try the trend. This pull-on pick is perfect for petites and comes in winter-friendly shades, like deep green and burgundy — was $85, now $20!
3. One-and-Done: I’m a mom to a 7-month-old, which means that if I’m getting ready, I’m doing it fast. Lou & Grey’s Maxi Sweater Dress is warm yet trendy, and with the addition of fleece tights and Ugg boots, you’ll be dressed in minutes, without sacrificing style — was $95, now $48!
4. Denim Dress: I’m actually surprised that this balloon-sleeved denim dress is still in stock. Between the visible seams and the slimming shape, it could easily pass as a designer find (I swear Ganni sells something similar) — was $110, now $55!
5. A Cozy-Cool Layer: It’s all in the details! The bedazzled collar on this half-zip sweater combines the best of both worlds, amping up even the most basic of outfits while keeping you warm — was $80, now $40!
6. Sweet Spots: It’s hard to think of an occasion where this dotted lace mini dress wouldn’t come in handy. With a blazer, tights and loafers, you could easily rock it at the office, but swap the shoes for red pumps and you’re ready for a formal event — was $110, now $55!
7. Very Cher Horowitz: Live out your Clueless dreams with a checkered mini skirt. Since it’s made for petites, it really does hit above the thigh, rather than annoyingly skimming your knees like other options out there — was $80, now $40!
8. ‘It’ Jeans: If there’s one denim trend that’s taken off in recent months, it’s barrel-leg jeans, which hug in all the right places but are roomy enough to move around in. While Loft sells a few pairs in petite sizes, I prefer the dark wash, which gives these bottoms an extra elevated spin — was $90, now $45!
9. Going-Out Top: Simple pants with a bold top is an outfit formula that never fails. This sheer, ruffled design will have people thinking you put in a ton of effort, even if you threw it on in a hurry — was $65, now $32!
10. The Ultimate Sweats: Trust me when I say that Lou & Grey’s loungewear bottoms are the best! Heavyweight and luxe-looking, this comfy pick makes you feel like you’re dressing up. . . even if your big plans for the day involve working from home — was $85, now $20!
11. Neutral Bottoms: My whole Instagram feed is full of winter white trousers, which aren’t exactly practical for accident-prone people like me. These beige bottoms are the next best thing. When styled with a belt, they’ll instantly revive your old T-shirts, turtlenecks and knits — was $95, now $48
12. Not-Your-Average Knit: While just as easy to shrug on as your favorite sweater, this option features a detailed pattern, double statement pockets and a fun drawstring at the neck, enhancing your whole outfit — was $110, now $55!
13. New Go-To: Trade you basic tees for a square-necked stunner that has a bit of texture and some ruching to disguise the midsection — was $55, now $27!
14. Swiftie Style: Maybe it’s the constellation-like print or the swing silhouette, but this dress feels very Taylor Swift Midnights era. I just know the pop star would rock it with chunky loafers or knee-high boots — was $100, now $50!
15. Fancy Pants: Faux leather leggings that won’t bunch at the bottom of your short legs? Add ’em to cart, STAT — was $80, now $20!
16. Valentine’s Day: You don’t have to wait until February 14 to break out Loft’s floral-printed, front-tie top. But since the romantic holiday is coming up, it won’t hurt to have your date night outfit already prepped — was $55, now $20!
17. Seasonal Swap: Have you grown tired of your usual winter rotation of jeans and sweats? Add a pair of straight-leg corduroy pants to your collection. The style is timeless, and for $20, you’ll have a staple you can break out for years to come — was $90, now $20!
18. Double Duty: This white V-neck cardigan looks like something like Meghan Markle might wear. While it’s easy to layer over your outfit, the slim-fit means it’s ideal for solo wear, too. You’ll be able to tuck it into your pants without any extra bulk — was $75, now $37!
