Everyone knew that Ryan Day set a high bar for himself and everyone else at Ohio State.
But after comments he made recently, some may think Day is living in a fantasy world.
During an appearance on the “Not Just Football” podcast, Day explained exactly what he’s looking for on the recruiting trail, signaling he may have some unrealistic expectations for incoming recruits and transfers.
“Across the board, there’s an expectation at Ohio State,” Day stated. “When you come here, you’re coming to be a first- or second-rounder, regardless of your position. And that’s it. If we don’t win games and championships, they’re going to find a new coach. Well, if you’re not a first- or second-rounder, then this probably isn’t the right place for you. That’s just the reality of it.”
To Day’s point, Ohio State is known for churning out plenty of NFL talent.
The school had three first-round picks in last year’s draft — wide receiver Emeka Egbuka (No. 19 overall to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers), guard Donovan Jackson (No. 24 overall to the Minnesota Vikings), and offensive tackle Josh Simmons (No. 32 overall to the Kansas City Chiefs).
OSU also had three second-rounders as well — running back Quinshon Judkins (No. 36 overall to the Cleveland Browns), running back TreVeyon Henderson (No. 38 overall to the New England Patriots), and defensive end JT Tuimoloau (No. 45 overall to the Indianapolis Colts).
Currently, the Buckeyes have five players projected to go in Round 1 of the 20206 draft — linebackers Arvell Reese and Sonny Styles, wide receiver Carnell Tate, safety Caleb Downs, and defensive tackle Kayden McDonald — plus two players projected to go in Round 2 — cornerback Davison Igbinosun and tight end Max Klare.
