The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have been on a tear on the recruiting trail this spring.
The Irish have 17 commits for the 2027 class, and ranked No. 2 in the country behind Oklahoma, per 247 Sports. Notre Dame had one five-star athlete committed, offensive tackle Oluwasemilore Olubobola.
On Friday, the Irish and head coach Marcus Freeman boosted the trenches with another five-star athlete, this time on the defensive side of the football.

During a live broadcast on the Rivals YouTube channel, defensive lineman David Folorunsho announced his commitment to Notre Dame. Folorunsho was a highly-coveted recruit as the No. 2 defensive lineman and No. 9 player for the 2027 class. He was a finalist for Miami, Michigan, and Georgia.
Folorunsho chose ND because of its tight community. He likes what the school can do for him after he graduates. Folorunsho told Rivals that he wanted to play for Freeman.
“I feel like it was the community aspect,” Folorunsho told Rivals. “The staff, coach Freeman, coach Partridge, and the overall community aspect and the life after football… The people that are around me. I know what Notre Dame has done for them over their lifetime. Just knowing that, knowing everything Notre Dame offers, you can’t go away from that. You can’t turn that down.”
He added that new defensive line coach Charlie Partridge, who spent the last two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, was a plus.
Partridge helped develop 2024 first-round pick Laiatu Latu with the Colts. Latu made the PFWA All-Rookie Team and has recorded 12.5 sacks during his first two seasons in the league.
Folorunsho is a six-foot-three, 285-pound lineman from St. Patrick High School in Chicago. Per 247 Sports, he played halfback in addition to the defensive line. He recorded 55 tackles, 18 tackles for loss and five sacks during the 2025 campaign.
