Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson quickly shut down rumors that she’s pregnant while celebrating the new year.
Speculation arose after the 36-year-old actress shared a photo via her Instagram Story on Wednesday, December 31. In the pic, Brunson wore a festive headband over a beanie, which she paired with a chunky, oversized sweater. She posed slightly at an angle, causing some bunching around her midsection.
“Not preggers,” Brunson insisted in a separate Instagram Story upload. “Sweater in [an] odd position. Not 2026 already getting my ass.”
Brunson celebrated the new year with friends following her divorce from Kevin Jay Anik. Us Weekly confirmed in March 2025 that Brunson filed to end their three-year marriage.
According to court documents obtained by Us at the time, Brunson listed their date of separation as “TBD” and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. She noted that the twosome “entered into a postnuptial agreement which governs the disposition of their property” and requested that each party be responsible for their attorneys fees.
In September 2025, the exes reached a settlement, agreeing to an uncontested divorce, according to People. The new documents revealed the duo’s date of separation as December 1, 2024.
Brunson and Anik got married in 2021. Before their split, Brunson shared few details about their relationship, but she shared some rare insight into how they met in her 2022 memoir, She Memes Well.
“To be 100 percent fully me requires a lot of stuff that a lot of men do not have time for,” she noted in an interview that same year.
Brunson praised Anik for allowing her to be herself, adding, “My husband, that’s what I mean by him being the biggest support, that there is no need to dim me at all. That allows me to love him fully and be the person that I want to be, and am meant to be.”
Amid Abbott Elementary‘s success, Brunson frequently thanked Anik for sticking by her side. She gave him loving shout-outs in acceptance speeches at the 2022 Emmy Awards and the 2023 Golden Globes.
“I didn’t prepare anything because I just didn’t think … Oh, God. I love my mom, my dad, my sisters, my brothers, my entire family so much. I love my husband. I’m so happy,” she said at the Golden Globes. “I love my cast. Oh, I love Abbott Elementary. Thank you so much.”
Months after her divorce made headlines, Brunson reflected on the challenges of navigating such a personal decision in the public eye.
“I remember seeing people be like, ‘She announced her divorce,’” she told Bustle in June 2025. “I didn’t announce anything.”
She continued, “I think people have this idea that people in the public eye want the public to know their every move. None of us do. I promise you. No one wants [everyone] to know when you buy a house, when you move, when a major change happens in your personal life. It’s just that that’s public record information.”
While reflecting on the toll of fame, Brunson noted, “I love my fans, I love the people who watch Abbott. But when it comes to matters of your personal life, you do have to tune it out. Those are invisible voices that aren’t in your home with you, that aren’t in your personal life, that aren’t your friends.”
