Hosting the Quad leaders’ summit in Brisbane would be a “golden opportunity” for the state, Queensland Premier David Crisafulli says.

Crisafulli last month used an American Independence Day event to announce Queensland’s candidature, which would bring US President Donald Trump to Brisbane.

And yesterday, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese threw his support behind Crisafulli’s pitch, saying he would work constructively with the premier to “make sure that happens”.

“I want to showcase this great state of Queensland to the world, particularly in the lead-up to Brisbane 2032,” he said.

Speaking on Nine’s Today this morning, Crisafulli said that hosting the Quad, which brings together Australia, the United States, Japan and India, would provide several opportunities for the state, including for defence.

“It’s not about a president, it’s about an economic opportunity across four nations,” he said.

“If we want things, we can’t sit back, we’ve got to go out and get them.

“I feel the way things are happening at the moment, this state is on the verge of going to the next level, and we’re going to reach out and grab it.”
