A dispute over a car sale has left a man with spinal injuries after he was thrown from the verandah of his home and then beaten with one of the broken balustrades.
The 52-year-old victim was at his Stapylton home south of Brisbane about 10pm on Saturday when he was confronted by three men over an older model Nissan Pulsar he had sold for less than $3000 via social media several days earlier.
He was “thrown or pushed” from the verandah “has broken the balustrade and has landed on the ground one storey below”, Gold Coast Superintendent Brett Jackson said.

“It’s further alleged that an additional assault has occurred where one of those people that attended the premises has picked up a piece of broken balustrade and struck the victim whilst he was on the ground,” Jackson said.
The victim was taken by ambulance to the Princess Alexandra Hospital with significant injuries, including spinal injuries.
“Buying and selling to private people, it has been done for many years, whether it be through the trading post or our social media platforms,” Jackson said.
“What we do say is there are things you can do to make it safer to do so, and that may be meeting at an agreed location in public, making sure that you’ve got a friend or family member with you if you’re going to buy and sell goods between someone that you don’t know.”
Jackson said he was hopeful the suspects, who detectives have identified, would be arrested and charged today.
