The situation for civilians in Gaza has worsened as the ongoing Israeli military offensive targets schools where displaced people have been sheltering from attacks.
“They told us we had to evacuate the school quickly,” Najwa Musabeh, a displaced Palestinian forced to abandon one such facility, told Al Jazeera. “We left our belongings behind, and even my children. I don’t know where they are.
The World Food Program (WFP) has said that an immediate ceasefire is the only way to save families from the threat of hunger. The agency said thousands of parents in the famine-struck enclave remain unable to secure food for their families.

Palestine’s UN ambassador, Riyad Mansour, called recent recognitions of a Palestinian state by the UK, Canada, Australia and Portugal historic, saying the number of countries recognising Palestine is steadily increasing (147 members of the 193 UN members have now made the move, according to Bloomberg). Australia’s formal recognition of Palestinian statehood came into effect on Sunday.
Speaking to Al Jazeera, Mansour urged stronger practical punitive measures to pressure the Israeli government, arguing that diplomatic recognition must be followed by concrete steps to end violations, such as halting arms sales to Israel, imposing sanctions, and cutting diplomatic and economic ties.
Reports from medical authorities say that Israeli attacks in Gaza City have killed at least 68 people overnight.
