The Toronto Blue Jays won Game 1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. The Blue Jays had Bo Bichette back, and he made his MLB debut at second base.
Bichette played fine at second base, which is where the team felt he was ready to play after returning from his knee sprain. However, that position change is not something the team is committing to for the rest of the series. General manager Ross Atkins confirmed before Game 1 that Bichette could slot in elsewhere later in the series.
After Game 1, Bichette was asked by reporters if there was any reason for him to believe he would not be starting at second base again in Game 2.
“It’s not my job,” Bichette said, according to a clip posted by Sportsnet on X.
Bichette made it clear that a decision on where he plays is up to the coaches. Even though Bichette is the one who initially brought up the idea of playing second base in order to help the team, he is willing to play wherever the team needs him. He made it clear he just wants to help the team and will play wherever the team wants him to play.
He went 1-for-2 with a walk in his first game since Sept. 6. The Blue Jays are trying to prevent the Dodgers from becoming the first back-to-back champion in over two decades. Having Bichette’s bat back in the lineup could be a key factor in the Blue Jays winning the World Series.
