A 27-year-old man will remain behind bars after he was charged with the torture and assault of a seven-week-old baby, with police alleging prolonged and repeated physical abuse.
The baby boy was taken to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in an unresponsive state on March 5, sparking a police investigation.
“It will be alleged that medical examinations at the time revealed that the boy had sustained extensive injuries consistent with prolonged and repeated physical abuse,” police said in a statement.
Police were notified, and as a result, the boy was removed from the care of a 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman in Forest Lake.
Following a months-long investigation, the man was charged with three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of torture.
The man, who cannot be identified, did not appear in person when his matter was mentioned in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday.
The matter was adjourned until June 23 for a possible bail application.
