Brittany Snow’s divorce from Tyler Stanaland changed her life in more ways than one.

Snow, 39, recalled in her Self magazine cover story, published on Thursday, November 6, that she was not able to eat after her split from Stanaland in 2022. The actress had to talk to herself “like a kid” when it came to food — and it completely changed her mindset.

“I’d be like, ‘OK, baby girl, do you want a bagel? Let’s get you a bagel. We’re going to toast it. We’re going to put some cream cheese on it. Is that all you can eat? OK, that’s OK,’” she recalled. “I started realizing that I was eating whatever I wanted.”

Snow, who has admittedly battled with food over the years, said this new way of thinking “completely changed my way of thinking about my body.”

She added, “I was talking to myself like someone I loved. And then I just never stopped doing that.”

Snow has spoken candidly in the past about her decision to call it quits with Stanaland, whom she married in March 2020. Specifically about how his appearance on Selling the OC was a major factor in what went wrong.

“I think people forget that when I got married, I got married to a real estate agent,” Snow explained during her Self interview. “He wasn’t even in my business whatsoever. He was definitely not a reality star.”

Two years into their marriage, Stanaland made his Selling the OC debut when the show premiered in August 2022. The following month, Snow and Stanaland announced their separation. (Their divorce was finalized in July 2023. Stanaland has since gotten engaged to Hannah Morrissey.)

Snow told Self that she “did not sign up for that,” referring to what went down on the show.

Stanaland made headlines for his flirty behavior toward female coworkers Kayla Cardona and Alex Hall after the show aired. Specifically, he claimed Cardona tried to kiss him when cameras weren’t rolling and was filmed doing “noseys” with Hall.

“It felt like it was a running snowball that I couldn’t catch,” Snow recalled. “I didn’t know what the heck was going on because it was so public and I couldn’t control it.”

She added, “I know the truth. … That’s all that matters.”

Snow has never explicitly said what was the final straw in their marriage, but she has made some rather pointed hints.

“I was not aware of a lot of things, and I’ll say that,” Snow said during her March 2024 appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “So, I will say, what people think happened, happened.”

Stanaland, for his part, has vehemently denied cheating on Snow.

“Relationships are complex even without public attention and speculation,” he shared in a March 2024 Instagram Story. “A mutual commitment was made, both personally and legally, to never speak about the complexities of my marriage publicly and I plan to honor that.”

The statement concluded: “I do, however, want to make it clear that I was never unfaithful in my marriage and the accusations of infidelity couldn’t be further from the truth. I will be making no further comments on this matter.”
