Having dropped just two points all season, defending champion Bayern Munich will look to uphold its unbeaten Bundesliga record on Saturday as it hosts a Mainz team for whom the winter break cannot come soon enough.
Vincent Kompany’s men claimed a routine 3-1 win over Sporting CP in the UEFA Champions League this week to further cement their place in the automatic qualification spots. They enter today’s clash aiming to maintain their commanding eight-point lead over RB Leipzig at the top of the Bundesliga standings.
While Mainz boss Urs Fischer has seen his side thrive in the Europa Conference League this season, that strong European form appears to be coming at a cost domestically. Last weekend’s 1-0 home loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach ensured Die Nullfünfer remain rooted to the foot of the table.
Bayern Munich takes on Mainz 05 on Sunday, Dec. 14, at the Allianz Arena. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. CET local time in Germany, making it a 4:30 p.m. GMT start in the UK. It’s an 11:30 a.m. ET or 8:30 a.m. PT kickoff in the US and Canada, and a 3:30 a.m. AEDT start in Australia in the early hours of Monday morning.
Teenage sensation Lennart Karl scored his second Champions League goal of the season in Bayern Munich’s 3-1 win over Sporting CP on Tuesday.
