After wowing fans during his time on “Deadpool & Wolverine,” it was announced that Channing Tatum would return as Gambit for “Avengers: Doomsday.” The big Marvel Cinematic Universe film has brought back the Russo Brothers, along with many of the original actors from the entirety of the Marvel comic book films.

Tatum finally arriving as Gambit shocked the comic world, and sent fans in theaters howling. His take on a Cajun accent was turned into a meme that has lasted months on end.
That said, Tatum is back as the card-throwing member of the X-Men, and the actor has revealed some huge information about the upcoming MCU epic.

Tatum spoke to Variety for an in-depth interview on his return to Marvel, and he revealed that he suffered a major injury while shooting the new “Avengers” flick.
“We’d probably be bowling or something if I wasn’t like this,” he says, after walking into our lunch meeting with a pronounced limp. For the remainder of the production so far — ‘We had tons more shooting,’ Tatum says, including a ‘big fight’ with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom — Tatum was sidelined, sitting in for close-ups and allowing his double to take on the heavy stuff. Today, he says, he’s taken the day off his pain meds ‘so I wouldn’t be falling asleep on you and drooling. My body doesn’t do well with codeine — and those painkillers the U.K. docs gave me were strong.'”
Apparently, Tatum suffered a sizable leg injury while shooting in London, which could be due to a “big fight” with Doctor Doom.
Firstly, Tatum’s injury led to his having to take painkillers, though it sounds like he will be able to finish shooting. Secondly, he dropped the bombshell that a major fight against Robert Downey Jr’s Doom is set to occur.
Fighting Doom is not a major spoiler, but Gambit being involved in the big fight certainly is. Tatum let loose a few new details, including a major change to Gambit.
Tatum is apparently going to ensure that Gambit is far more understood in “Avengers: Doomsday,” by taking it “easy” on the Cajun accent for the film.
That might lessen the memes that Gambit and Tatum could appear in later down the road, but understanding the character is also very important. The beloved X-Men character was supposed to sound a bit funny, as was the overall theme of the latest “Deadpool” entry.
Now, it appears that the Russo Brothers want Gambit to be heard more easily. The good news is that Tatum is also on the mend from his injury, and there is unlikely to be any sort of delay on his end from whatever ailment he is dealing with.
