Two three-year-olds were allegedly bound with duct tape and held at gunpoint, with Queensland police saying a distressing photo of the scene was forwarded to several people.

Charged have been laid against a 44-year-old man, after he was originally arrested in May on weapons and drugs charges in Emerald, in central Queensland.

The man’s mobile phone was seized, and investigators found the image in a forensic examination.

Police alleged it showed the man pointing what appeared to be a handgun at the three-year-olds, who were known to him but not related to him.

He reportedly forwarded the photo to other people.

The two children were tracked down, and were safe.

Charges for possession of unlawful weapons, dangerous conduct with a weapon and deprivation of liberty have been laid against the 44-year-old.

He was granted bail and was due to front Emerald Magistrates Court on August 26.
