Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid broke his silence about his superstar tight end Travis Kelce’s engagement to Taylor Swift

“I’m happy for them,” Reid, 67, told reporters on Friday, August 29. “It’s hard to find somebody that you fall in love with. That’s not an easy thing, to really fall in love. And it seems like they’re there. I think it’s a great deal for both of them.”

Reid continued, “They like being around each other. That’s a plus, I think. They’re both busy people in their own right. Both are very famous in their own right. It’s kinda neat that they come together and handle themselves the way they do.”

Kelce and Swift, both 35, announced their engagement on Tuesday, August 26.

“Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married 🧨,” the couple shared via Instagram alongside a carousel of photos from the proposal, which took place in the back garden at Kelce’s home in Kansas City.

Reid has been married to his wife, Tammy Reid, since 1981.

Kelce and Swift’s engagement hit Chiefs Kingdom like a force this week, with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes being one of the first people to respond to the news.

Mahomes, 29, responded via his Instagram Story on Tuesday, sharing an engagement picture of the couple with three red-heart emojis.

The quarterback’s wife, Brittany Mahomes, who has become good friends with Swift, also responded to the engagement on Tuesday.

“Two of the most genuine people meet & fall in love,” Brittany, 29, wrote via her Instagram Story on Tuesday. “Just so happy for these two 🥹🤍.”

Chiefs defensive lineman Mike Danna didn’t have long to digest the engagement news before he spoke to the media on Tuesday afternoon.

“I just got told 30 seconds ago,” Danna, 27, told reporters. “But that’s awesome. I’m so happy for them — Trav, Taylor, that’s a wonderful time in their life. A wonderful part of their journey. That’s a beautiful thing to see.”

Danna said he has spent time with Swift  “once or twice” gushed about what the future holds with Kelce.

“That’s a great thing to see,” Danna added. “Seeing them settle down, seeing all [those] happy smiles and happy faces between the two.”

Swift and Kelce made their first public appearance as an engaged couple on Thursday, August 29, when the duo hit Kansas City’s Arrowhead Stadium to see Kelce’s alma mater, the Cincinnati Bearcats, play the University of Nebraska.

Kelce and the Chiefs are gearing up to kick off the 2025 NFL season in São Paulo, Brazil against the Los Angeles Chargers on Friday, September 5.
