CEO of the Climate Council, Amanda McKenzie, has expressed alarm over the findings of the federal government’s National Climate Risk Assessment handed down yesterday.
Speaking to 3AW this morning, McKenzie said that “we’re preparing for a more difficult future,” with “longer, hotter heat waves and more extreme heat days” expected across the country, according to the report.
“Melbourne has got hotter… My children are four and seven, and I’m very worried about their future, particularly as I look at all of this data.

“The expansion of renewables, we’re already at 43 per cent renewables, over the next 10 years, the renewable rollout will be critical to our nation’s future,” McKenzie said.
The landmark report, released yesterday, predicts that if Australia hits 3 degrees of warming, heat-related deaths will increase by 444 per cent in Sydney (with western Sydney residents most at risk), 423 per cent in Darwin, 335 per cent in Townsville, 312 per cent in Perth, 259 per cent in Melbourne and 146 per cent in Launceston.
