Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels missed Sunday’s Week 3 win over the Las Vegas Raiders with a knee sprain and is now considered “day-to-day” heading into the team’s Week 4 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons.
Daniels returned to practice for the first time since his injury as a limited participant on Wednesday. After the practice session, the reigning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year answered questions from reporters about his injury status.
When asked how much “running and cutting” he’s been able to do, Daniels answered with an encouraging response.
“Enough to feel good if I play on Sunday,” Daniels said.
Daniels also added that it’s up to team doctors to clear him before this weekend’s clash against the Falcons.
“Like I said, it’s not my decision,” Daniels continued.
Daniels clearly wants to play in Week 4, and Commanders head coach Dan Quinn would presumably love to have his QB1 back on the field.
“He’ll continue his return to play process and you will see him out there today in limited fashion,” Quinn said of Daniels on Wednesday. “We’ll continue to rely on the medical team to fully clear him, but what I can say is man, he’s doing everything you possibly can to get there.”
Quinn said the team will have an update on Daniels’ status on Friday.
Despite Daniels’ absence in Week 3, the Commanders notched a dominant 41-24 win over the Raiders. Veteran backup Marcus Mariota stepped in under center, recording 207 yards passing and one touchdown while completing 15 of 21 passes. The 31-year-old QB also rushed for one TD on a quarterback scramble as well.
Daniels threw for 433 yards, three touchdowns and zero interceptions in the first two games of his second NFL season. The former No. 2 overall pick also rushed for 85 yards during the Commanders’ 1-1 start.
Sunday’s Week 4 matchup against the Falcons will kickoff at 1 p.m. ET.
