Given some of the videos that emerged on social media of his ankle injury from Sunday’s Week 3 game against the Chicago Bears, things could have been a lot worse for Dallas Cowboys star CeeDee Lamb.
The four-time Pro Bowler left Sunday’s 31-14 loss in the first quarter after his left ankle bent awkwardly after getting pinned under Bears linebacker Noah Sewell near the end of a play, and he was ruled out for the rest of the game.
Speaking to reporters in the locker room after, Lamb claimed the injury wasn’t serious enough to keep him out of Dallas’ Week 4 matchup against the Green Bay Packers and that the team’s training staff held him out for precautionary reasons.

Left ankle sprain, likely medial
Sometimes the left MCL (knee) is injured here as well.
This is a very strong (deltoid) ligament, so usually it takes a lot to injure this.
I expect them to tape this up and him to try to play through this. pic.twitter.com/HjnjSx0T9n

“Yeah, this is like protect me from myself type of deals,” Lamb said. “So, once I start feeling much better and I start to get the strength back in my ankle as far as mobility and able to cut and like real dynamic movements — I was ready to go back out there but then they told me not to.”
And while Lamb may truly believe he’s healthy enough to play next week, the Cowboys’ team doctors don’t believe that’s a wise decision. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Lamb will miss at least a few games as he makes works his way back into the lineup.

“The #Cowboys do not plan to place WR CeeDee Lamb on IR with his high-ankle sprain, source said, giving him a chance to return prior to four weeks,” Rapoport stated. “He’ll miss at least the next two games and is considered week-to-week after that.”
ESPN’s Adam Schefter also confirmed that timeline, stating after the next two weeks is when Cowboys fans should expect to see Lamb back on the field.
“Cowboys WR CeeDee Lamb suffered a high ankle sprain during Sunday’s loss to the Bears that makes him unlikely to play Sunday night vs. the Packers, per sources,” Schefter reported. “The Cowboys want to see how Lamb is doing the next 10-14 days before making further determinations about his status.”
