The Department of Fire and Emergency Services issued a watch and act alert for the fire about 11.51am on Thursday.

DFES said burning embers were likely to be blown around homes and could spark more fires.

Those who planned to leave were urged to leave now, or ensure they had protective clothing and an independent water supply – and start patrolling their property to put out spot fires.

Residents are advised to close doors and windows to keep out smoke, turn off evaporative air conditioners and move flammable materials such as doormats, wheelie bins and outdoor furniture away from houses.

A bushfire advice warning is in place for people west of Karel Avenue in an area bounded by Leach Highway to the north, Camm Avenue to the west, Parry Avenue to the south and Lefroy and Mossman Crescent to the east.

Although there is no immediate danger residents need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes.

A number of roads have been closed including Karel Avenue.
