The Kansas City Chiefs have had a mixed bag in recent drafts. Some are massive hits, while others are big misses. One of those misses happened to be wide receiver Skyy Moore, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round back in 2022.
Moore only caught one touchdown in three seasons with the Chiefs before being flipped to the San Francisco 49ers near the end of training camp before the 2025 season began. Moore wasn’t an active receiver in the offense, but he found work as the primary return man in the Bay Area.
After one season in San Francisco, Moore signed a one-year, $2.5 million deal with the Green Bay Packers, hoping to continue his work on special teams and potentially find his way into the rotation at receiver on offense. There has always been a belief that Moore’s speed could make up for his lack of size and that he could become a weapon from the slot, and that’s what the Packers are taking a cheap risk on.
That’s something that Chiefs head coach Andy Reid believed as well. In an interview with Bill Huber from Sports Illustrated, Moore revealed that Reid sent him a special message after he was traded to the 49ers.

“Coach Reid, he sent me a text,” Moore told Huber for Packers On SI in an exclusive interview. “He said this will be good for you. Sometimes a change of scenery is all you need. And he told me a story, he said, ‘When I moved from Philly to K.C., I didn’t look at it as a bad thing.’”
Reid spent 14 years with the Philadelphia Eagles and made it to one Super Bowl, but couldn’t quite complete the mission. After his contract wasn’t renewed, he became the Chiefs’ coach in 2013. Since then, he’s won three Super Bowls and been to five, building a dynasty in the Midwest.
“He said don’t look at it as a bad thing,” Moore said of Reid’s message. “It could be a real pivotal part of your career. And I took that and I really ran with it because that’s exactly how I was looking at it, too. I felt kind of stuck in a way in K.C. And going to San Fran helped me get it back on the road and just put the fun back in the game. I was getting hurt a lot, and last season was my first full, healthy season in a while. I feel like it changed the trajectory of my career.”
Moore’s next chance will come in Green Bay, where he will compete for a spot in the slot and as a returner.
