“You may have heard that my husband Ben is going through something. He developed severe pneumonia which came on very suddenly. He’s currently in the hospital and unable to respond to anything at this time. We welcome all prayers for healing and for peace. We are trying to keep life as normal as possible for our children currently and doing our best to support them thoughtfully so please refrain from discussing it with them for now,” she wrote on her Facebook page.

Now, the news of Askren’s health reached an unfortunate point, as rumors spread that he passed away in the hospital.

Caio Barralho apparently misunderstood the news about Askren and stated that he had passed away. This led to a bevy of messages on social media.

Askren’s wife Amy then had to clear the air. Though she shot down the rumor that her husband had passed away, she still revealed a concerning update.

Amy spoke to TMZ Sports and stated that Askren is still “definitely fighting for his life.”

Whatever is going on with Askren is very serious, and he remains in the hospital. Fellow former UFC star Daniel Cormier also took to social media to try and calm the nerves of fans and posted a message of hope for his friend and podcast co-host.

Cormier initially reported that Askren was back at home with his wife, but quickly corrected that and revealed he is still in the hospital:

“He’s back in Wisconsin in a hospital. He isn’t home. Please keep praying for Ben. I should have been more clear,” Cormier wrote.

Cormier and Askren co-host the “Funky and the Champ” podcast, where they talk about everything MMA.

Hopefully, Askren can heal quickly, and the rumors of his death and the reports of his health status start moving in a far more positive manner. For now, Amy, Cormier, and the MMA world are asking everyone to pray that Askren makes it out of the hospital.
