Fremantle midfielder Caleb Serong has thrown his support behind a potential play for Chad Warner as the out-of-contract Sydney star weighs his future.

An East Fremantle product, Warner has been linked to both West Australian clubs amid speculation of a return home at the end of 2025, while new Sydney coach Dean Cox has put re-signing the All-Australian at the top of his priority list.

Fronting the press on Thursday, Serong said he was yet to cross paths with Warner but liked the idea of bringing the explosive on-baller to Cockburn.

“He’s a very tough player to play against so if we can get him in purple, it’d make it a lot easier for us,” he said.

Having already snared Shai Bolton at the end of last season, as well as recently re-signing Hayden Young on a mega-deal deal lasting until the end of 2033, there are question marks over the Dockers’ capacity to land Warner in comparison to cross-town rivals West Coast, particularly given they are still yet to re-sign Andrew Brayshaw.

The Dockers co-vice captain joked that he was in Brayshaw’s ear daily but expected his fellow vice captain to recommit.

“He’s working through that, it’s his decision to make – [as well as] his family, himself, the people around him,” Serong said.

“Hopefully, he can follow ‘Youngy’ and sign long-term and that’d be great, but I know he loves being around the club, and he’s as committed as anyone to bring the club the first premiership.”
