Curtis International is expanding a recall of its mini fridges that now covers almost 964,000 Frigidaire-branded products sold in the U.S. following multiple reports of fire.
Newsweek has contacted Curtis International via email for comment.
Why It Matters
The recall addresses a critical public safety issue. These fridges pose fire and burn risks, which could have serious consequences, be it property damage or personal injury.
Similar recalls were issued in 2025 for Paris Hilton Mini Beauty Fridges at Walmart and LG branded electric ovens sold at stores including Costco, underscoring the importance of checking recall notices for potential hazards.
What To Know
According to a notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Curtis International had previously recalled 634,000 in July of 2024.
Now, Curtis International has recalled a further 330,000 mini fridges.
The commission said that the mini fridges internal electrical components can short-circuit and ignite the surrounding plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards.
There have been at least six reports of the mini fridges catching fire, resulting in property damage, according to the commission. The recall was issued on January 15, 2026.
The full product name is “Frigidaire-brand Minifridges,” and the product had the model number “EFMIS121.” It had serial numbers between A2001 to A2310
The mini fridges were sold at Target in store and online from January 2020 through to October 2023. They retailed for around $30.
Newsweek has contacted Target’s press department for comment.
Meanwhile, the Commission recently announced that a series of products, sold by Amazon, had been recalled nationwide due to a risk of injury or death to children. These products include Rattan 6-drawer dressers, Vasicar 18-drawer dressers, a Lterfear multifunction pounding game, and a Joyful Journeys baby lounger.
What People Are Saying
The recall description on the Consumer Product Safety Commission’s website reads: “This recall expansion involves Curtis International 6-can minifridge model EFMIS121. This is in addition to certain mini fridges with model numbers EFMIS129, EFMIS137, EFMIS149 and EFMIS175 that were previously recalled. “Frigidaire” is printed on the front of the units. The model and serial numbers are on a label on the back of the mini fridge. This recall includes only the serial numbers identified below. The mini fridges were sold in red at Target stores.”
What Happens Next?
Impacted customers should immediately stop using the recalled product.
A refund can be registered online. Consumers are instructed to unplug and cut the power cord. Then, write the word “Recall” in permanent marker on the front door of the unit.
Consumers should check their local and state regulations for disposal before disposing of the product.
