He’s a K-9 crusader!
A heroic Los Angeles police dog took down a crazed gunman on his own front porch after he wildly fired at a police helicopter, ending an almost four-hour standoff with cops — footage released Sunday shows.
The dramatic police footage showed the moment the canine was released by officers, pouncing on the suspect after he took aim at the helicopter hovering above him.
The pooch easily took down Anthony Whitsey, 57, after he opened his front door to speak with cops, video showed.
Before he was taken out, Whitsey was seen in front of his home, ranting and shooting a 9mm handgun into the air at the chopper.
The madness unfolded Nov. 20 in broad daylight after officers received a call regarding an assault with a deadly weapon. After deploying a helicopter, officers spotted the suspect, who then fired “approximately three to five” rounds at the orbiting helicopter, LAPD said.
After being shot at by officers, Whitsey eventually dropped the gun on his front lawn and retreated into the house. Then the dog got a chance when Whitsey briefly stepped out on his porch to confront the SWAT team outside, the video showed.
He was taken to a local hospital, treated for injuries, and subsequently booked for assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, LAPD said.
Whitsey was not hit with bullets during the standoff, but his shoulders, arms and legs were bitten by the dog.
