Detective Superintendent Craig Middleton said the elderly couple living in the home are innocent and law-abiding citizens, and have been left “very upset and traumatised” by the two attacks.

“They’ve lived there the majority of their lives with their grandson, and this is obviously very shocking for them and their community.”

NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon said gun violence in the city’s west was “definitely not out of hand”, and that cracking down on organised crime remained a top priority for police.

“We’ve made significant arrests. We will not stand for the type of violence you are seeing there,” he said.

It’s unclear if the weapon seized on Friday was used in any of Sydney’s recent shootings.
