Kansas City clinched the AFC’s top seed with a commanding 29-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 17. Patrick Mahomes was in MVP form, completing 29 of 38 passes for 320 yards and three touchdowns. However, fans hoping for another Mahomes masterpiece will have to wait until the playoffs.
Head coach Andy Reid has announced that Mahomes, along with key starters like TE Travis Kelce, RB Isiah Pacheco, and RB Kareem Hunt, will sit out Sunday’s game to rest for the postseason. With backups taking the field, this game will be a chance for Kansas City’s depth players to shine and prove their value heading into the playoffs.
The Broncos are coming off a 30-24 overtime loss to the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17. Despite the setback, Denver’s playoff hopes are still alive. They can secure a Wild Card spot with a win or tie against the Chiefs. Alternatively, they can sneak in if the Miami Dolphins lose or tie.
QB Bo Nix has been a bright spot for the Broncos, throwing for 219 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception against Cincinnati. WR Marvin Mims Jr. was electric, hauling in eight catches for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Denver’s offense will need another strong performance to capitalize on Kansas City resting its starters.
