New Mexico State fell behind 24-0 last week before a late rally fell just short in a 24-21 loss to visiting Kennesaw State that dropped the Aggies to 1-5 in Conference USA. Logan Fife threw for 241 yards and two touchdowns with two interceptions and was sacked six times, while Dijon Stanley gained 61 yards and scored once on 10 carries. Donovan Faupel caught both TD passes as Fife connected with 11 different receivers. Bernock Iya had a pair of interceptions in the loss.
Tennessee last played on Nov. 1, losing 33-27 at home to then-No. 18 Oklahoma to fall to 3-3 in the SEC, and has no path to the conference championship game. Joey Aguilar has thrown for 2,737 yards and 21 touchdowns with eight interceptions, while Desean Bishop leads the running game with 690 yards and nine scores. Chris Brazzell II leads the team with 808 receiving yards and eight TDs, while Braylon Staley has a team-best 52 catches for 703 yards and five touchdowns. Dominic Bailey tops the defense with 4.5 sacks, with Joshua Josephs and Tyre West each posting four.
Saturday’s game is the first-ever meeting between the programs.
