Human skeletal remains were discovered at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx Friday morning, police and law enforcement sources said.
A group of artifact hunters made the chilling discovering in a wooded section of the park, just off the southbound side of the Major Deegan Expressway around 11:38 a.m., according to cops and sources.
As of Friday night, police were still probing the grim scene near Exit 13 of the expressway.
Photos showed the city’s Office of Chief Medical Examiner removing the remains from the scene.
Portions of the park were also cordoned off as the investigation continued.
It was not immediately clear how the remains ended up there or how the person had died.
The NYPD is investigating, along with the city medical examiner’s office.
