The Democratic Party candidate for Texas’ Senate seat, James Talarico, responded Wednesday to reports that the Secretary of Defense’s pastor had prayed for his death.
In an interview on the podcast Reformation Red Pill, Pete Hegseth’s pastor, Brooks Potteiger, and host Joshua Haymes said they prayed that God would kill Talarico, who is a state representative and has worked as a pastor himself.
“Jesus loves. Christian Nationalism kills,” Talarico said in a statement Tuesday. “You may pray for my death, Pastor, but I still love you. I love you more than you could ever hate me.”
Talarico has been a long-time critic of some parts of the GOP’s reliance on Christian nationalism. He has also been criticized for his stance on accepting the transgender community, as well as some of his interpretations of the Bible.
