The Dallas Cowboys not only pulled off a massive win, but they did so in dominant style against their divisional rivals, the Washington Commanders. Dallas is now 3-3-1 on the season, and owner Jerry Jones has given insight into the team’s plan for the trade deadline.

Jones spoke about the Commanders’ Week 6 loss, saying he feels great about the Cowboys’ chances.
“It just reminded me that we are still in it … I’m encouraged. The last thing I’m thinking about is in any way being out of the (playoff) hunt,” Jones told reporters.
With Dallas defeating the Commanders and moving into second place in the NFC East, there is far more that Jones is likely banking on. Though the Cowboys have been quiet in recent years regarding the trade deadline and the contracts that bigger players have, there is a glaring issue the team needs to address.
Heading into Week 7, the Cowboys were the worst defense, giving up an NFL-high 411.7 yards per game, including a league-worst 259.5 passing yards per game.

Defense should be the focus, though one NFL general manager urged the Cowboys to also target a running back. Either way, Jones has given his thoughts on what the team plans to do ahead of the November 4 trade deadline.
Following the Cowboys’ win, Jones spoke to reporters, indicating he would be patient to see if anything comes across his desk that he likes.
“I don’t have anything in front of me right now that I’m interested in. I haven’t noodled up something that I might be interested in. You have to go within the boundaries of what’s possible and what you hear from other clubs as we get into the trading deadline. We’ll see if something there helps. I’m not gonna holler into my pillow if we don’t get a trade, cause I feel good about the makeup of the personnel we have right now,” Jones said.
The Cowboys did look far better on defense against the Commanders, keeping both Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota from throwing more than 205 yards. Washington also only had one touchdown through the air.
In terms of rushing defense, the Commanders had a committee that secured 136 yards and two touchdowns.
The Cowboys offense continued to look elite, with Dak Prescott tossing 264 yards and three touchdowns. Javontae Williams also had 116 yards and one touchdown on the ground, making the request for a running back seem very odd.
Jones is not known for making huge deals at the trade deadline, but it would be wise to explore someone new in the secondary. DaRon Bland had a huge pick-six, but Trevon Diggs remains out with a concussion.
Jones may have stated the Cowboys will stand pat for now, but it wouldn’t be the least bit shocking if they add someone on the defensive side of the ball.
