The LSU Tigers have made a bold decision to move on from head coach Brian Kelly. After an incredibly disappointing tenure, the elite program will be searching for a new head coach and quite a few names have already been brought up as possible candidates.
Under Kelly since he was hired in 2022, LSU compiled a 34-14 record. The Tigers went 19-10 in SEC play, which clearly wasn’t good enough for Kelly to keep his job.
Moving forward past the failed Kelly experiment, LSU cannot afford to miss with its next hire. Among the list of possible candidates for the job have been Lane Kiffin, Jon Sumrall, James Franklin, and many more names.
Nick Saban Emerges as Potential Coaching Candidate for LSU
With that being said, former NFL head coach Jon Gruden has been very open about wanting to coach in the SEC. He has now been named as a potential candidate to watch for the Tigers in their new head coaching search.
USA Today took a look at some possible names who should be considered by the Tigers. Gruden was mentioned on that list.
“Gruden at LSU? Pure theater,” John Adams wrote.
Gruden would be a very intriguing hire for LSU. There are few people around the game of football who love it more than Gruden does. While he has had some questionable issues in his past that led to parting ways with the Las Vegas Raiders, there is no denying Gruden’s ability as a football coach.
Outside of Gruden, there were some other intriguing names listed that haven’t been commonly talked about as a candidate for the Tigers. A couple of those names were Urban Meyer and Nick Saban.
More than likely, LSU isn’t going to hire Gruden, Meyer, or Saban. It seems much more likely that Kiffin would be the No. 1 choice for LSU, but he might not have interest in leaving Ole Miss. Only time will tell, but Gruden’s name is at least worth keeping in mind.
Alabama Star Ty Simpson Gets Shocking NFL Outlook
Throughout his NFL head coaching career, Gruden ended up with a 117-112 record with a Super Bowl win with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers back in the 2002 season.
Should the Tigers decide to take a flier on Gruden, the entertainment aspect would be real. LSU would immediately become one of the most popular to watch teams in college football.
