A Justin Bieber impersonator may want to say “sorry” after he tricked the staff at a Las Vegas hotel into believing he was actually the Biebs.
When DJ Gryffin (born Daniel Griffith) was performing at XS Nightclub within the Wynn Las Vegas resort on Saturday, August 16, he was told the real “Never Say Never” singer was in the building.
“It started when Bustin Jeiber showed up to the club and I was told he wanted to perform,” Gryffin, 37, explained via Instagram on Monday, August 19. “Dark venue and loud music didn’t help here. So his ‘team’ said he wanted to perform ‘Sorry.’ Little did I know I was about to be sorry.”
As it turns out, the artist claiming to be Bieber, 31, was in fact an impersonator. Once the venue realized the performer onstage was not the real Grammy winner, they took action.
“After an elaborate and multi-step ruse by him and his advance team, a Justin Bieber impersonator was granted access to the XS stage,” a rep for Wynn Las Vegas told Us Weekly. “As soon as the error was recognized, he was removed from the resort and denied future entry.”
According to Gryffin, the venue “went wild and after 4 minutes and 27 seconds of what sounded like Justin Bieber, I found out the worst news imaginable” — namely, that the man onstage was not the real Bieber.
After sharing his experience, Gryffin received some supportive messages from fellow DJs.
“Damn, we should have stayed on that boat lol,” Diplo joked in the comments section. DJ Diesel — also known as NBA player Shaquille O’Neal — added, “This happens to me all the time.”
While the venue hasn’t confirmed the identity of the impersonator, Us Weekly can confirm Dylan Desclos is the man responsible for the prank. Over the weekend, the performer was spotted in the parking lot of Las Vegas Premium Outlets.
“Were you performing at XS in Vegas this weekend lol,” one follower wrote in the comments section. “I’m pretty sure that was you.”
Desclos — who seemingly deactivated his Instagram — replied, “Yes.”
Gryffin is trying to turn a negative into a positive as the sequence of events continues to make news. After recalling his night in Sin City, the DJ told fans he has new music coming out soon.
“Btw I have a new song out called higher power (Justin Bieber is not on it) but it’s good,” he wrote. “I promise.”
