Princess Kate Middleton is shedding light on the truth about mental health in motherhood.

The United Kingdom charity Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA) took to Instagram on Friday, November 14, to share a letter written by the Princess of Wales, 43, about the importance of the organization’s new exhibition, “This is Also Motherhood,” which explores “the often unseen realities of mental health throughout pregnancy and beyond.”

“The Maternal Mental Health Alliance continues to champion the voices of those navigating perinatal mental illness,” Kate wrote. “At the heart of this exhibition are ten extraordinary women. Their courage to speak openly about their experiences, whether marked by trauma, joy, or resilience, demonstrates the great vulnerability and strength of the human condition. Through their portraits and letters, they remind us that no one should have to navigate the perinatal journey alone.”

The royal, who is a patron of the charity, continued, “The exhibition is a testament to the MMHA’s core mission; ensuring every family in the U.K. gets the mental health care and support they need, before, during and after pregnancy.”

Kate concluded, “‘This is Also Motherhood’ reminds us that perinatal mental health problems can be overcome. Every parent’s story matters and every voice has the power to help build a society where love, hope, and compassion are at the heart of everything we do.”

In the caption of the post, the MMHA shared that they were “honored” to have received the letter from Kate, adding that her “support” of the exhibition and “our hopes of normalizing conversations about mental health within the early motherhood and parenthood journey is something we value so dearly across the MMHA team.”

“We’d love to share this letter with you, as it so beautifully summarises our hopes and ambitions for this new campaign and for the work of the MMHA,” the captioned continued.

Kate shares three children — Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7 — with husband Prince William. The U.K. native has spoken candidly about her own experiences with her mental health throughout her journey as a mother in the past, revealing in 2017 that she felt “lonely at times.”

“You do feel quite isolated … But actually, so many other mothers are going through exactly what you’re going through,” Kate said during an event at the Global Academy in London. “But it’s being brave enough, like you obviously were, to reach out.”

Kate’s letter about mental health in motherhood came one day before she shared a personal message via Instagram about “learning to let go.” In a video titled “Autumn,” the third in her “Mother Nature” series, Kate provided a voiceover detailing “the season for reflection and refinement.”

“With the turning of the seasons, Mother Nature teaches us there’s beauty to be found in change, impermanence and in letting go. These are the natural cycles of life,” she said.

The caption of the video read, “Autumn — a season of reflection, growth and deeper connection. Embrace the beauty found in change, as we prepare for winter’s rest. C.”
