A historic wedding venue north-west of Sydney was destroyed by a fire late on Friday night, forcing many couples to find last-minute arrangements for their special day.

More than 80 firefighters were called to the venue, Loxley on Bellbird Hill, in Kurrajong Hills at about 7pm after receiving reports of a fire in the main building.

Footage from the scene showed flames coming out of the windows and on the roof of the building as multiple fire crews doused the area in water.

There appeared to be no events happening onsite at the time. A 40-year-old man was treated for minor burns after trying to extinguish the fire, NSW Police said in a statement.

Fire crews were still on the scene on Saturday morning, putting out spot fires sparked by the embers.

“A large building has been totally destroyed and other structures [have sustained] damage,” the NSW Rural Fire Service said.

Specialist fire investigators from NSW Police are at the venue and investigating the cause of the blaze.
