Friday night’s preseason game between the Detroit Lions and Atlanta Falcons made history for all the wrong reasons. A major injury led to the game being suspended, as players from both sides met in the middle of the field to offer a prayer for Lions defensive back Morice Norris.
NFL Suspends Lions-Falcons Game Due to Major Player Injury
Norris went in for a tackle and suffered what appeared to be a gruesome head and neck injury. His head snapped back after colliding with running back Nathan Carter.
The telecast revealed that Norris began “spazzing,” and medical staff jumped in right away. An ambulance was needed on the scene, and Norris was placed on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital.
While there, reports from the Lions indicated that Norris was alert, responsive, and had movement in his extremities. In what could have been a horrific end, it appears to have turned into great news.
Norris himself took to Instagram to offer a major injury update.
Norris posted a bible verse on his page, accompanied by a caption that reads:
“Amen Amen I’m all good man don’t stress it appreciate all the check ins and love.”

Thankfully, it appears that Norris did not suffer an injury that will impact his way of living. Granted, his Instagram post does not indicate what the results of testing are, but his high spirits could point to him having not suffered anything significant.
The Lions will certainly be updating the world about the full status of Norris, and he is unlikely to take the field again anytime soon. Still, his caption has placed a huge amount of hope into the situation.
Norris’ injury is eerily reminiscent of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin, who went down from a tackle that caused cardiac arrest. Hamlin had to be transported to a local hospital, where he began his recovery.
Thankfully, Hamlin has since returned to the field, and his story became quite inspirational for the entire league. Now, Norris will also have to recover, but he might not have suffered anything as significant.
Either way, it was incredible to see players from both the Lions and Falcons on the field joining hands to pray for Norris to not have suffered anything life-threatening or career-threatening.
As players say, “It’s bigger than football.”
