Liza Minnelli has a new project in the pipeline for children.
On Monday, February 24, the 78-year-old legendary performer took to Facebook to announce that she would be releasing a children’s project called Lil Liza — which will seemingly be a book.
The Oscar winner shared an adorable black-and-white photo of herself doing ballet as a child and explained more about Lil Liza in the post’s caption.
“Hi Kids, well it’s time to share news with you. My children’s project based on the little girl fantasies that every one has… becomes a reality soon. Say hello to ‘Lil Liza,'” the Broadway star wrote.
The Cabaret actress shared that her godmother, Kay Thompson, who authored the famed book series Eloise may have based the main character on Minnelli. Like Eloise, the characters in Lil Liza will embark on fun adventures.
“Many people say my god-mother wrote Eloise based on my experiences at the Plaza Hotel,” the four-time Tony Award winner wrote. “Lil Liza and her best friend Michael are gonna travel the world singin, dancin & spreadin joy all around.”
The Sterile Cuckoo star did not give a release date, instead writing, “You’ll learn more in the months ahead. I love you all,” before thanking those involved in the project.
The comment section was filled with positive comments and excitement from fans about Lil Liza.
“Adorable. Congratulations! I’m looking forward to it,” one person commented.
A second person wrote, “What an adorable photo! 🥰 The children’s book is going to be a huge success. ❤️ you.”
Many people were also surprised to learn that Eloise may have been based on Minnelli’s childhood. The singer had a unique childhood as she is the daughter of famed actress Judy Garland and director Vincente Minnelli. (Garland had two other kids with producer Sidney Luft: Lorna, 72, and Joey, 69)
“The Eloise books were such favorites of mine. So interesting to know you were the inspiration! Good luck!” someone commented.
“Never knew Your God-mother was the Author of Eloise I’ve not read the book just the movie I’ve watched MANY TIMES OVER AND LOVVVVVVVVEEEEEE,” another individual penned.
