Richmond residents have been left shocked after a badly banged-up ute careered through the inner suburb, sending sparks flying.
Footage online shows the grey ute driving down Church Street, the front drivers’ side wheel badly damaged and the undercarriage grazing the roadway, sending smoke, sparks and an ear-splitting screech into the air.
Images posted online in nearby York Street show the end of the incident, where the ute appears to have hit a maroon sedan and left it on top of a blue sedan, crushing the blue car’s bonnet.
Police have confirmed they have arrested a man believed to have been behind the wheel, and that at least 10 vehicles were damaged in the incident.
“Multiple calls were received in relation to a car being driven erratically in the Richmond and Collingwood areas around 7pm,” officers said in a statement.
“The driver struck around four vehicles on York Street in Richmond before his car came to a stop. A short foot pursuit ensued, and the man was arrested.”
“No one was injured during the incidents, but multiple vehicles were struck and damaged, the number approximately 10 at this stage.”
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated. Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
