One man was killed and another seriously injured in separate Queensland traffic incidents on the weekend, one in a hit-and-run south of Brisbane and the other in a fatal crash in the city’s northern suburbs.

A male passenger aged in his 20s died after a car hit a tree in Northgate on Saturday night.

The crash took place on Earnshaw Road about 10.10pm. The car is believed to have left the road and struck a tree, according to police.

The 23-year-old driver was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigations are ongoing to determine if speed was a factor in the crash.

Earlier, there was a hit-and-run at Tamborine just before 6am on Saturday, involving a dark-coloured 2025 Kia Tasman utility and a motorcycle.

The crash allegedly happened on Waterford Tamborine Road, just north of Sonny Kibble Place, and the Kia failed to stop at the scene. It is believed to have damage to the right front and driver’s door.

The 47-year-old male rider sustained serious leg injuries and was transported to Gold Coast University Hospital for treatment.

Police are appealing to the driver of the utility to come forward, and also for any members of the public with information of vision of either crash to contact them.
