Councilwoman Julie Menin said Wednesday she’s locked up a “super majority” in her bid to become the next speaker of the City Council.

Menin, a Manhattan Democrat who has positioned herself as a moderate in contrast to the incoming socialist mayor, said Wednesday that she has secured support from a diverse slate of 36 lawmakers from Yusuf Salaam to Big Apple Republicans.

“I am honored and humbled by the trust and faith that my colleagues have put in me to lead the City Council as a force of action for New York families,” Menin said.

“With this broad five borough coalition, we stand ready to partner with Mayor-Elect Mamdani’s administration and deliver on a shared agenda that makes New York more affordable through universal childcare, lowers rent and healthcare costs, and ensures that families across the City can do more than just get by.”

The race has been heating up in recent days as frontrunner candidates Menin and Crystal Hudson (D-Brooklyn) brandished their labor endorsements – with Menin getting the backing of heavyweights like 32BJ and the United Federation of Teachers and Hudson getting support from 1199 SEIU.

Menin, who will be the first Jewish speaker, is widely considered to be a moderating force on the Mamdani agenda while progressive caucus member Hudson was considered to be the most amendable candidate to the Mamdani agenda.

Menin however, has signaled support for some of Mamdani’s policies such as universal childcare.

Her support stretches across the political aisle, netting support from both conservative and left council members across the five boroughs.

Sources also told The Post that mayor-elect Mamdani and Menin are having a call today to speak about the legislative agenda ahead of them.

A representative for Mamdani did not respond to a request for comment.
