The Baltimore Ravens made the surprising decision to fire longtime head coach John Harbaugh on Tuesday evening, ending an 18-season tenure with the organization.
The move comes after the Ravens’ heartbreaking 26-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the regular-season finale, which decided the AFC North champion and the final playoff spot in the conference.
During his time in Baltimore, Harbaugh led the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2013, earned NFL Coach of the Year honors in 2019, captured multiple divisional titles, and ranks second among all NFL coaches in playoff appearances since 2008.
“Thank you, Coach Harbaugh, for 18 tremendous years,” the Ravens wrote in a statement.

One of the first players to react to the news was star cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who was drafted by the Ravens No. 16 overall in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has been with Baltimore ever since and is considered one of the premier players at his position.
“John Harbaugh. A good man,” Humphrey shared on X.
Harbaugh likely won’t be out of coaching for long, as he’s already drawing significant interest around the league, with reportedly seven teams contacting his agent about potential interviews.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Harbaugh has also emerged as the favorite for the New York Giants’ head coaching vacancy — a potentially ideal landing spot given the young talent currently on the roster.
