The New York Mets had one of the best offseasons imaginable last year when they added Juan Soto in free agency alongside a slew of other moves. But these moves didn’t pay off as quickly as the Mets would have liked, as they missed the postseason this season.

As a result, they’re going to need to put together another incredible offseason this winter if they want a real chance at a World Series in the near future. But the Mets must worry about their own free agents first. Pete Alonso and Edwin Diaz are both free agents that the Mets should be targeting this offseason.

But USA Today’s Gabe Lacques recently predicted Diaz would ditch the Mets and sign a deal with the loaded Los Angeles Dodgers.

Recently, Jim Bowden of The Athletic also projected Diaz would sign a massive $88 million deal, which puts him firmly in the price range of the Mets and Dodgers.

The Dodgers need to add to their bullpen more than anything, and they have plenty of money to do so. After Tanner Scott’s disastrous season last year, the Dodgers could add Diaz to shore up the backend of games.

But the Mets should be expected to pursue Diaz as aggressively as any player this winter. They can’t afford to lose him in free agency. The production from the team would suffer greatly.
