Michelle Williams is opening up about life as a mom of four.
The Dying for Sex star quietly welcomed her fourth child earlier this year via surrogate, as reported by People in April. The newborn is her third child with husband Thomas Kail, with whom she also shares son Hart, 4, and another child born in 2022 whose name and sex have not been revealed. (Williams also shares daughter Matilda, 19, with the late Heath Ledger.)
Williams, 44, gave a “big shout-out” to her surrogate, Christine, during an appearance on the Monday, August 18, episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! She told guest host Tiffany Haddish that she and Kail welcomed a baby girl.
“This last baby did not come out of my body,” the Dawson’s Creek alum shared. “The miracle of our little girl is thanks to Christine. Thank you, Christine!”
The actress admitted that she sometimes feels mom guilt leaving her three youngest children when she has to go to work. “I have, thanks to Christine, three under 5 at home,” she said, quipping, “Everything’s good and under control. I’m the adult.”
“It’s good, it’s good. It’s just really busy,” Williams said. “I’m just trying to figure out the life-work balance, and you know, I hear a lot of people talking about self-care, and I’m just wondering, ‘When?!’ Because I’m a working mom, and so I already have the guilt and I don’t want to take more time away from them, but I understand I need to fill up the tank.”
Williams said she’s found the perfect solution to make time for herself: mundane bureaucratic tasks at the Social Security office.
“You say, ‘I’m sorry, honey, but one day you’re going to grow up, and you’re going to get a job, and you’re going to pay taxes, and you’re going to need a Social Security number for that,’” she explained.
Williams continued, “I recommend a midday appointment, because it’s a little bit more crowded, and then you can claim your rightful place at the back of the line, where they will let you wait in complete silence for at least one hour. … Bring, like, a nail file and to-do list, and like, check, check, check.”
“If you want a pro hack tip, don’t double-check your paperwork, because you might have to go back,” the actress joked. “Three kids, that’s three appointments. I mess up the paperwork, that’s six appointments.”
For further time away from home, Williams humorously advised, “REAL ID. Don’t sleep on that! It’s an opportunity. Get your REAL ID. Take care of yourself.”
