According to several reports leading into the MLB trade deadline, the Seattle Mariners were expected to be buyers.

General manager Jerry Dipoto is known for his big-time splashes, whether that be in free agency or in trades.

Dipoto struck again this season and pulled off two of the biggest acquisitions of the deadline and they may have given the Mariners the best offense in the American League.

Dipoto struck again and acquired not one, but two sluggers out of the National League West and they just so happened to be teammates.

The acquisition of first baseman Josh Naylor was the first true domino to fall and kick the trade deadline into full swing. Entering Friday, Naylor was batting .288 with 12 home runs, 19 doubles, 60 RBI and a .705 OPS, good for the second-best of his career.

He was the first piece to fixing a Seattle offense that was among the worst in baseball.

The biggest addition to the Mariners lineup, though, was the big bat of Eugenio Suarez.

Suarez has always been among the best sluggers in baseball, but his numbers this season are almost otherworldly.

Prior to his departure from Arizona to Seattle, Suarez was second in the NL with 36 home runs and led all of MLB with 87 RBI.

He brings value and production to a position (third base) that the Mariners have gotten next to nothing from so far this season.

The additions of Naylor and Suarez to a lineup that already has Randy Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez and MLB home run leader Cal Raleigh is scary for any opposing pitching staff.

Dipoto’s trade deadline magic has given the Mariners the best lineup in the American League, and they have a real chance at making a deep postseason run.
