A woman spent tens of thousands of dollars decorating her entire home with Monsters, Inc. memorabilia — and even changed her own name to match a character from the movie

Laura Sullivan, 36, has been collecting Monsters, Inc. items since the Pixar animated film was released in 2001.

Over the past 24 years, her collection has grown so much that every room in her home — except the master bedroom — is fully decorated.

As an ode to the movie franchise, Sullivan even changed her surname to Sullivan — the film’s main character, a large, furry blue monster who works as a top “scarer” at the Monsters, Inc. factory.

Sullivan cannot say the exact amount she has spent over the years.

She estimates it’s well into the tens of thousands, with her two most expensive items — life-size models of the main characters Mike and Sulley costing $7.5K each.

Sullivan, a pharmacist based in Tuscon, Arizona, said: “I have loved Monsters, Inc. ever since the movie first came out.

“I love the characters, the storyline, the fun colors.

“Basically anything and everything you can think of relating to Monsters Inc I enjoy.

“I also have ADHD, so this probably started out as a hyperfixation.”

When Sullivan was a child, her mother worked at the Disney Store and often brought home merchandise for Sullivan and her brother.

After Monsters, Inc. came out, she started bringing home Boo plushies and memorabilia for Sullivan and other characters for her brother.

Sullivan said: “After my brother grew out of it, I took all of his Monsters, Inc. merch and never stopped collecting.”

Sullivan has since expanded her collection from filling a single room in her previous home to occupying almost every room in her current house.

After getting divorced three years ago, she decided to fully invest her time into decorating her dream home.

The living room, dining room, kitchen, guest room, guest bathroom, hallway and office are all filled with memorabilia.

This includes a green sofa, a guest bedroom bed set, a painted front door and life-size models of the two main characters Mike and Sulley.

Sullivan said: “Before that marriage ended, I would dream about what my own place would look like with everything being themed to Monsters, Inc.

“All the cookware, walls and furniture being fun shades of light blue, green and purple.

“It was a dream that I made reality.”

Sullivan said: “I do try hard to find savings where I can though but I have been collecting since 2001 so in 24 years it’s tens of thousands of dollars.”

After her divorce in 2023, Sullivan even changed her surname to Sullivan in honor of one of the film’s main characters Sulley, also known as James P. Sullivan.

Sullivan intends to keep collecting for as long as she can, ultimately aiming for a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

She said: “I will never stop adding to the collection.

“I have turned this into my whole personality.

“When I got remarried, my wonderfully supportive wife took my last name so we are the Sullivans.

“I even believe I have the largest collection of Monsters Inc, Monsters University, and Monsters at Work items.

“When I find the time, I’m going to submit it to Guinness World Records.”
