Sussan Ley is speaking from Bondi Beach this morning ahead of a planned paddle-out, and is calling for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to recall parliament next week to introduce legislation in response to Sunday’s attack.
Describing Albanese’s response to antisemitism as “too little, too late”, Ley has repeated her call for the deportation of non-citizens who preach “radical Islam”.
“My message is: if you preach hatred, if you preach radical Islam in a way that hurts or harms your fellow man or woman, if you incite, if you glorify terrorism, if you are not an Australian citizen you will be deported. If you are an Australian citizen, you will be arrested,” she said.
“This is what we need to see, and the implementation and the legal affect of this can start next week in the parliament.”
The government yesterday announced a five-point plan to combat antisemitism, which will include a crackdown on “hate preachers” and those who promote violence.
