A 31-year-old man has been charged after allegedly smashing a car window during a road rage incident in Perth’s south-east on Monday morning.
Footage of the incident obtained by this masthead shows a man pulling on the driver’s side door of a silver Toyota Corolla before using a long pole to smash the window on the southbound off-ramp of Roe Highway at Welshpool Road.
A WA Police spokeswoman said it would be alleged the Corolla had been tailgated by a Ford Focus along Roe Highway in Wattle Grove before both cars came to a stop at the highway off-ramp.
“When both vehicles were stopped at the Roe Highway off-ramp, police will allege the occupants of the Ford Focus approached the victim’s vehicle and smashed multiple windows with a pole, before assaulting the victim,” the spokeswoman said.
The footage shows other commuters get out of their cars as the Toyota’s window shatters, with one witness telling this masthead he was shocked at the incident, which took place about 9am as drivers made their way along the busy road for the start of the work week.
Police attended the scene shortly after.
A 31-year-old Ascot man has been charged with one count of criminal damage or destruction of property; one count of being armed in a way that may cause fear; and one count of assault occasioning bodily harm.
He is scheduled to appear before Armadale Magistrates Court on January 22.
